{"id":131,"date":"2011-06-18T08:17:05","date_gmt":"2011-06-18T15:17:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/avianambassadors.com\/BirdTraining\/2011\/06\/18\/we-are-all-trainers-%e2%80%a6-all-the-time\/"},"modified":"2011-06-18T08:19:02","modified_gmt":"2011-06-18T15:19:02","slug":"we-are-all-trainers-%e2%80%a6-all-the-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/avianambassadors.com\/BirdTraining\/we-are-all-trainers-%e2%80%a6-all-the-time\/","title":{"rendered":"We are all trainers \u2026 all the time."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I saw the following post on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/avian.ambassadors\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a> recently and it reminded me of something that I believe every animal owner is apt to forget, and that is that we are ALL trainers ALL the time<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt;\"><em>I&#8217;ve had birds all my life, though admittedly no parrots larger than a cockatiel. I tend to be permissive and I don&#8217;t think in terms of training birds so much as learning to read their body language and making friends with them. I think it&#8217;s very hard to make a bird do anything&#8230;rather, you win it over with gentleness, consistency and rewards. \u2013 Cathy Kendall<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>At the time I read the above quote I commented that is was a wonderful description of training; in it Cathy expresses the essence of what I strive for in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.behaviorandtraining.com\" target=\"_blank\">my classes, workshops, seminars, and training<\/a>. I have written about this previously in the article &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/poa4s-1A\">Ethical Training as a Way of Life<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Every time we are in the presence of another sentient being we will make some change in the behavior of that being, albeit often times a subtle one. Therefore if we wish to have a good relationship with any animal, and I include <em>Homo sapiens<\/em> here, we need to be conscious of our interactions at all times.
